Today, the Golden Helix Foundation and the Section of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics of International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) have entered into a collaborative agreement to foster their cooperation and to advance basic and clinical research in pharmacogenomics, its clinical translation and educational and learning activities.
The Section of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics is a formal section of IUPHAR, a non-profit association representing the interests of pharmacologists throughout the world and whose mission is: Better Medicines through Global Education and Research. The Sections aims are, to promote the exchange of pharmacogenetic knowledge by organization of symposia and workshops in the field of pharmacogenetics and genomics, to evaluate the clinical impact of pharmacogenetics, to assist with the development and maintenance of drug-related pharmacogenetic databases and to create a population based biobank to conduct translational research in clinical pharmacogenomics.
In furtherance of their mutual interest in improving fundamental and clinical pharmacogenomics and its translation into clinical practice, the two organizations have agreed: (a) cooperate and collaborate on programs and activities of mutual interest, (b) work together to provide education symposia/workshops in developing countries and regions, and (c) foster collaborative research to better understand the genetic basis for ethnic diversity in the response to and adverse effects from medicines. Also, from time to time, the organizations may cooperate in providing speakers, programs and supports for each others meetings.
The cooperation between these international organizations and the closely related to the Golden Helix Foundation Genomic Medicine Alliance, are expected to catalyze their invovlement in research and educational activities in the field of Genomic Medicine.
