Hints for reading the results table

Allele frequency column: frequency calculated among the affected individuals in the ethnic group or in the family.

Carrier frequency column: frequency calculated in a random sample of individuals from the ehtnic group. In certain cases, the mutation(s) is limited to either one or two villages, a tribe or a region and this is indicated. When a number appears in parenthesis, it represents the frequency of the mutation in the particular village/tribe/region.
